Lisa Carlson is a full-time consumer activist and sometime hell
raiser, working on behalf of Americans to protect their rights in
dealing with the funeral industry.
She is currently the executive
director of the Funeral Ethics Organzation (FEO), a group
promoting ethical practices within the funeral industry.
Prior to FEO, she served as executive director of the nonprofit
Funeral Consumers Alliance. She is the author of 3 books
on funeral law, helping consumers understand their rights and avoid
exploitation by the funeral industry.
Ms. Carlson lobbies for reform of federal and state laws and
regulations, asking for more rigorous enforcement of existing
protections. She is a popular public speaker, well-known for
injecting hilarious and sometimes irreverent humor, helping her
audiences be more receptive to the subjects most of us prefer to
avoid.
She has appeared on hundreds of national and local television
and radio programs and frequently testifies before legislative and
regulatory panels as an expert witness in court cases on behalf of
consumers.
Ms. Carlson is the author or four books: Caring For Your Own
Dead, I Died Laughing: Funeral Education with a Light Touch,
her landmark book Caring for the Dead: Your Final Act of
Love, and her most recent book, co-authored with Joshua
Slocum, Final Rights: Reclaiming the American Way of
Death, is the ultimate handbook for consumer issues.
