Repass (Repast) or Funeral Reception

A funeral reception (or repass) is a gathering following a funeral service or memorial. If it is open to everyone, an invitation will be announced at the end of the service by the clergy, a family member or the funeral director. You can pass out printed directions if the location requires a drive.

Sometimes a family may wish to keep the reception private and only invite close friends and family - in this case be sure to communicate this to the people you are inviting.

Below are some questions you may want to think about before planning your reception:

  • What can I afford?
  • How many people might attend?
  • What would be meaningful to the honoree?
  • What kind of food would be appropriate?
  • What facilities are near the funeral or memorial service?
